CHARITY workers have sunk a water well in Zimbabwe to provide fresh water for more than 1,500 children.
Smile International, based in Rushet Road, Orpington, opened a new well at Kubatana School in the suburb of Epworth in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe.
The charity has been working in Zimbabwe since 2002 and currently has five paid staff in the country.
They oversee projects focussing on education, raising AIDS awareness and feeding children as well as sinking wells.
Smile chief executive the Rev Clive Doubleday, who flew out to Zimbabwe to witness the opening, said: "It was good to see first-hand the difference that Smile has been making in Zimbabwe, and it was wonderful to witness the joy and excitement of the children as the water came gushing out of the well."
