FIVE men are due to stand trial in connection with the murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan 21 years ago.
Mr Morgan was found with an axe embedded in his head in the car park of the Golden Lion pub in Sydenham Road, Sydenham, on March 10, 1987.
James Cook, aged 53, a builder from Tadworth in Surrey, and William Rees, aged 53, a businessman from Weybridge in Surrey, are charged with murder.
Brothers Gary Vian, aged 47, of no fixed address, and 49-year-old Glenn Vian, from South Croydon, are also charged with murder.
Sidney Fillery, a 61-year-old barman from Great Yarmouth, has been charged with perverting the course of justice.
A plea and case management hearing took place at the Old Bailey today (July 31) and a trial is due to take place in April next year.
(BLOB) A 24-year-old serving police officer who was arrested in April on suspicion of misconduct in a public office remains on bail. He is set to report to a central London police station on September 8.
