A DESIGN team has been chosen to transform two town squares as part of a council's regeneration programme.
General Gordon Square and Beresford Square in Woolwich town centre will undergo a revamp in 2011 following Greenwich Council's decision to award the contract to landscape architects, Gustafson Porter.
The council received 39 entries from designers across the world.
Cabinet member for regeneration, Councillor Pete Brooks, said: "Both squares are enshrined within the history of the town centre and the role Woolwich has played in the wider history of the country.
"The transformation is about preserving and improving these local landmarks so that they can be enjoyed well into the future."
The Woolwich Squares International Design project forms part of the council's programme of works to improve and create new public spaces in Woolwich town centre.
It is also one of the sites included in the Mayor of London's 100 Public Spaces programme.
