West Wickham Leisure centre will remain closed 'for weeks' as more investigatory survey work is carried out and options are considered.
The news comes after Bromley Council decided to close the centre to protect public safety as structural issues were found.
The structural issues were found in the plant area and prompted the council to close the leisure centre for “the coming weeks”.
Bromley Council has said that the issues identified are contained in the plant area, away from public sections and are not connected to RAAC.
The potential to bring forward the multimillion-pound improvement works planned to go ahead later this year are now being considered as part of the possible solutions, the council says.
In the meantime, Mytime Active members can use any of its other leisure centres and swimming pools in Bromley – Biggin Hill Pool, Darrick Wood Pool, The Pavilion Leisure Centre, The Spa at Beckenham and Walnuts Leisure Centre. Primetime classes remain unaffected and running at West Wickham Halls.
Councillor Yvonne Bear, executive councillor for renewal, recreation and housing said: “Whilst it is unfortunate that we have had to close West Wickham Leisure Centre without notice due to the issues discovered during survey work, its long-term future is bright with the Council’s continued commitment to invest in these leisure facilities.
“We are looking very carefully at all the options, including potentially bringing forward the redevelopment of the centre, and are working closely with Mytime Active to minimise disruption and keep residents informed about the situation.
“We will update further when we can.”
A spokesperson for Bromley Council said: "The ongoing investigatory work is continuing, with a range of options being considered.
"The leisure centre will remain closed during this period and for the coming weeks, with further information expected to follow."
