CHILDREN can win prizes for reading this summer as a council aims to get them passionate about books.
The Kent County Council (KCC) scheme is aimed at youngsters aged from four to 12.
Prizes range from a bookmark to entry in a prize draw for a trip to Disneyland Paris.
The more books children read, the bigger the prize they receive.
A KCC spokesman said: "The reading challenge is a great way to inspire young people to lose themselves in a good book during the summer holidays."
The scheme runs throughout the school holidays and children can join in at any library across the county.
Activities for children taking part in the challenge have been organised in Swanley and Gravesend.
A crafts day will be held at Swanley Library, in London Road, on August 16.
Children can also take part in football and fencing at Fort Gardens, Milton Place, Gravesend, on August 30 .
