According to research by Up at The O2, around 11 million Brits say it is time to get rid of the tradition of men proposing to women.
Shifting from common proposal stereotypes like large rings and grand gestures, Brits seem to be more attracted to privacy, surprise and unique locations.
An "epic, unique and photogenic" location was the most important element of a proposal for 18 per cent of people, outweighing the importance of the engagement ring.
The top element for a perfect proposal was a sense of privacy at 51 per cent, closely followed by the element of surprise at 46 per cent.
Surprisingly, it seems that Gen Z uphold the traditional proposal etiquette more than other age groups.
Around 63 per cent believe that prospective grooms should seek the bride's father's permission before proposing.
