A FORMER landgirl has been recognised for her hard work during the Second World War.
Eileen Welply-Baldwin, 82, who lives in Chislehurst High Street, has been awarded a badge of honour for her work as a landgirl by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
The award, which came by post, was sent with a letter from Gordon Brown.
Mother-of-three Mrs Welply-Baldwin joined the Women's Land Army at the age of 17 in 1942.
She earned £4 a week until she left in 1947.
Mrs Welply-Baldwin said: "I am absolutely delighted, it was well worth waiting for.
"It was really and truly appreciated."
During the war women were needed to help farms to grow food for the nation.
Thousands of former landgirls across the country have also received a badge for their efforts during the war.
