A COUNCIL and community groups are celebrating after three parks in the borough won an award for being among the best green spaces in the country.
Parks East Greenwich Pleasaunce, in Chevening Road, Greenwich, and Sutcliffe Park, in Meadowside, Eltham, have been awarded the Green Flag Award for the first time in recognition of excellence.
Well Hall Pleasaunce, in Well Hall Road, Eltham, won the award for the sixth consecutive year.
The award scheme, managed by environment charity the Civic Trust, has been running since 1996.
Greenwich Council cabinet member Councillor Maureen O'Mara said: "In Greenwich we are extremely proud of our open spaces and as a council we work hard to maintain and improve them, for all to enjoy.
"We're particularly grateful for the work done by community groups in helping care for the parks."
