AN INDIAN man has been arrested on suspicion of working illegally at a supermarket and his employer now faces a potential fine of up to £10,000.
Police arrested the man on suspicion of working illegally at Kooner's Supermarket, in Plumstead High Street, on July 18.
This was the result of an operation led by Government immigration control body, the UK Border Agency.
The store has been issued with a notice of potential liability, which could mean a fine of up to £10,000.
A UK Border Agency spokesman said: "We will not tolerate illegal working.
"Newcomers who do not play by the rules break the deal they made with the UK when they entered the country.
"It is the responsibility of every employer to ensure those they employ have the right to work."
