IT IS a grand thing when all you have you do is sup a free glass of wine to smash a world record.
But for regulars at three Bexley pubs, it was as easy as that.
The Wrong 'Un pub in Bexleyheath Broadway, New Cross Turnpike in Bellegrove Road, Welling, and Furze Wren in Market Place, Bexleyheath, were part of an attempt by the pub chain Wetherspoon, to involve drinkers from 680 pubs across the country in a synchronised wine tasting.
Their aim was to break the world record of 5,100 simultaneous wine tasters, set in Spain in 2006.
Bexley police licensing officer Eddy Boston was at the Wrong Un on May 21 to verify the numbers taking part.
Now Guinness world records have confirmed the total number involved was 17,540 and has declared it a new official world record.
Terence Fitzgerald, the manager at the Bexleyheath pub, said: "Customers at The Wrong Un joined in enthusiastically with the world record attempt and I am delighted it has been broken."
