RESIDENTS are going to protest over what they claim are council plans to relocate a school to their sports ground.
Community group the Friends of Hervey Road Sports Field plan to make their feelings known at a Greenwich Council meeting today (30/7).
The Blackheath site is one of the places the council is considering for the relocation of Willow Dene School, currently in Swingate Lane, Plumstead.
And the group say they have a copy of a plan showing the proposed development, despite council claims that no decision has been made.
Group chairman Susan Proudfoot said: "Every time we ask the council about what's going on they say nothing is.
"I agree no formal decision has been made but there's no other site as far as I can tell that's being proposed in this detail."
Her group was set up in 2006 and claims to represent around 1,000 residents.
In March they held a clean-up of the site, claiming the grounds had been allowed to deteriorate.
They claim that Hervey Road, which has been used as a sports ground for around 120 years, is an important facility, used by sports clubs and Blackheath Bluecoat School in Old Dover Road.
And they also say the site is unsuitable for a school as it is bounded by three major roads and lies around 4 miles away from Willow Dene's current location.
She said: "I think it's appalling.
"In a way it shows complete disregard for the views and intelligence of local people."
