RESIDENTS have had a chance to look at three different options for redevelopment in their village.

The plans, which were shown to residents in New Ash Green Library in North Square on July 23, showed three different ideas for the regeneration.

Differences in the plans include the position of new retail shops, residential property and car parks.

The three main landowners in New Ash Green - the Co-op, Gableholt Ltd and Pipperton Finance - commissioned architects Broadway Malyan to produce the designs.

Broadway Malyan associate director Tony Russell said: "We want to regenerate and kick start the shopping centre because it has got a bit run down."

All the designs include new residential property, improved pedestrian routes and landscaping in the centre.

More open space and keeping and extending the existing Co-op store is also included.

Resident, David Walden of Redhill Wood, New Ash Green said: "I think it is a very good idea. I just hope that something comes of them.

The 71-year-old added: "My biggest worry is if it will still bring people into the centre."

Plan A includes refurbishing and extending some existing retail units and either refurbishing existing residential property or building new property above the existing retail units.

Plans B and C include building new retail units around the new village centre and also having some residential property above them.

In both plans, A and B, there is space available for school drop-off and community facilities. Both plans also include creating residential property in the north car park but keeping some car parking.

They also include keeping the existing central and south car park for the village centre, village hall and pub.

For plan C the north and central car parks would be kept as they are but new residential property would replace the south car park.

Resident, Faisal Noordally (COR) 58, of Spring Cross, New Ash Green, said: "After seeing the plans I think concept b is the best because it seems to have the most open space."

A design will be chosen early autumn and a planning application is due to be submitted by February next year.
