A COUNCIL has approved a new strategy to help fight crime.
A three-year strategy to reduce crime in Lewisham borough by working more closely with the police has been approved by the council.
The objectives of the Safer Lewisham strategy include reducing the level of crime, tackling anti-social behaviour and improving victim support and community engagement.
The strategy will include co-ordinating council services with police activity.
Lewisham Mayor Sir Steve Bullock said: "Overall, crime levels have gone down in the borough but I am very aware residents are of the impression this is not the case.
"We need to continue to strengthen the Safer Lewisham Partnership with an emphasis on working with schools and community groups to reinforce a more widely recognised social and moral code of conduct."
The partnership sees organisations such as the police, council, Probation Service and fire brigade, working together to reduce crime in the borough.
