Residents on Pembroke Road in Erith described the carnage they witnessed in the aftermath of Kai McGinley’s shooting.
Kai, 24, was shot dead at around 8.45pm on February 9 last year.
Seven men are on trial at the Old Bailey accused of murdering Kai and attempting to murder two of his friends.
We are reporting live from the trial with updates here.
This morning (January 18) prosecutor Brian O’Neill KC told the jury of the chaos that residents witnessed that evening.
Witness describes horror scenes
Kai and his friends, Bill Burton and Norman Samura, were in a Mini which was rammed off the road by a Land Rover, he said.
Some or all of the occupants of that car, as well as a Peugeot which was behind it, jumped out and opened fire, it is alleged.
A woman who was driving along Pembroke Road came to a stop as the road was blocked by the Mini.
She said she saw three men surrounding the Mini, including one man who was trying to break the front passenger side window.
Mr O’Neill said: “She could not tell from where she was if Male 1 had anything in his hands.
“He made four or five quick short sharp punching movements to the front passenger side of the Mini; the impression she got was that the passenger, Mr Burton, appeared to be defending himself.“
About 45-60 seconds after that she said she heard a gun shot and the three men who had been surrounding the Mini jumped into a car which “screeched off”.
‘Teen girl woke to gunshots’
The commotion was also heard and witnessed by residents on Pembroke Road, Mr O'Neill said.
One teenage girl who lived on the road said she woken up by four or five pops.
When she looked out her window she saw Kai stumbling towards the pavement with an injury.
Downstairs the girl's mum said Mr Burton shouted very loudly: "They had guns."
The mum phoned 999, Mr O’Neill said.
Another resident said she heard two or three quick bangs and looked out the window where she saw the Land Rover stopped in the road with a smashed windscreen.
She said four or five young boys were standing beside it, all of whom were wearing balaclavas and dressed in black, and they appeared hyped up.
Mr O'Neill said: "At least two of the group were holding “long, black, cylindrical shaped items in their hands which were quite large”.
"She then heard four “popping” sounds. The men then ran off up the middle of the road."
Prosecutor Mr O’Neill also gave the account of another resident who heard the shots outside his home.
The resident waited two minutes before going outside where he heard a man shouting.
Mr O'Neill said this was Mr Burton, who said: "Can someone call the police my friend’s been shot?”
