A £27 million renovation for leisure centres in West Wickham and Orpington are scheduled for 2024, which includes new pool roofs and drowning detection technology.
This undertaking aims to upgrade the pool infrastructure at Walnut Leisure Centres and will include plans to expand gym spaces, introduce accessible toilets and cafés, and improve changing facilities.
Initially sanctioned at an executive meeting for Bromley Council on October 18, the proposed enhancements address the fact that these leisure centres, constructed in the late 1960s, have reached the end of their natural design life.
Council officers, as stated in their report, emphasized the significant usage of these facilities, with both centres collectively attracting over 20,000 visits per month.
The finalization of project plans is anticipated within the current year, with the completion of the renovations slated for 2026.
