A woman who was murdered in her home in Lewisham has been named for the first time.
Tia Simmonds, 32, was found dead at her home in Parbury Road on Wednesday, January 3.
Shane Simmonds, 38, of Parbury Road, appeared in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday, January 4) charged with murder.
He has also been charged with two counts of rape in relation to a separate female.
He was remanded to custody to attend the Old Bailey on Monday (January 8).
This comes after a man turned himself into a south London police station in the early hours of the morning on Wednesday, January 3 claiming that he had harmed a woman at an address on Parbury Road.
Police went to the scene and found the body of a 32-year-old woman and while formal identification awaits, she has been identified as Tia Simmonds.
Tia’s family continue to be supported by specially trained officers.
A special post-mortem examination is due to be held at Greenwich Mortuary on Friday, 5 January.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Webb, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “As I have previously stated, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this murder. This is a truly tragic incident and our thoughts remain with Tia’s family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time.”
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “A man will appear in court charged with the murder of a woman in Lewisham.
“Shane Simmonds, 38 (10.02.85) of Parbury Road, SE23 appeared in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 4 January charged with murder.
“He has also been charged with two counts of rape in relation to a separate female.
“He was remanded in custody to attend the Old Bailey on Monday, 8 January.
“This follows an incident where a man attended a south London police station in the early hours of Wednesday, 3 January claiming to have harmed a woman at an address on Parbury Road.
“Officers attended and found the body of a 32-year-old woman. While formal identification awaits, we can confirm the deceased is Tia Simmonds who lived at the address.
“Tia’s family continue to be supported by specially trained officers.
“A special post-mortem examination is due to be held at Greenwich Mortuary on Friday, 5 January.”
