A man has said his “faith in humanity has been restored” after the people of Crayford helped his mum left unconscious after she was hit by a car.
70-year-old Anne was unable to move on the concrete and subsequently taken to hospital after she was hit by a car on the Roman Way one way system between Sainsbury’s and Lidl.
The incident happened at just after 12.10pm on Wednesday, December 27 and police attended the scene.
Anne’s son, Dean Catney, has since expressed his thanks on Facebook to the people who helped her, after she was “briefly” left unconscious.
On the post, he says his mum was unable to move, and was lying flat on the cold concrete for 45 minutes, while she was waiting for an ambulance that “never arrived”.
The Facebook post reads: “We decided to drive her to A&E ourselves as the ambulances were being diverted for cardiac arrests and the gridlocked traffic everywhere was unbearable.
“Super scary since she couldn’t move.
“Arrived safely thanks to Michael the off-duty paramedic taking the initiative and have been in hospital since & will be for a while.”
Dean’s post also said that Anne faced some “nasty injuries”, with skin graft and plastic surgery required across both legs.
The Facebook post continues to read: “Other scans have come back clear.
“Whilst she’s ok for now, I ask if you know her, please pray for a speedy recovery for her.”
Dean has since expressed his thanks to everyone who helped Anne after the incident and says his “faith in humanity has been restored”.
He thanked the following people on Facebook: “Thank you to Charlotte a nurse (still in her PJ’s), Michael an off-duty Paramedic who left his wife and kid in their car to stay with mum, Charlotte the GM of Nando’s, Stuart the manager from Pure Gym and many others in Crayford who were all there to her aid until we arrived and took action.”
Police say the driver of the car stopped at the scene.
Investigations continue and any witnesses are asked to call 101 quoting CAD 2970/27Dec.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 12:11hrs on Wednesday, 27 December to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in a car park in Stadium Way, Crayford.
“The pedestrian was taken to hospital - her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
“The driver of the car stopped at the scene.
“Enquiries are ongoing, and any witnesses are asked to call 101 quoting CAD 2970/27Dec.”
