A woman has died after her car crashed into the central reservation on the M25.
Essex Police were called to a single-vehicle crash just after 8.30pm yesterday (December 23).
A car had crashed into the central reservation of the motorway between junction 27 (Epping) and junction 28 (Brentwood).
Despite the best efforts of paramedics the driver of the car died at the scene.
A police spokesperson described her as a “young woman from London”, adding that her next of kin have been informed.
A woman aged in her 20s who was a passenger in the car sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital.
A clockwise section of M25 was closed for more than seven hours overnight while emergency services dealt with the scene, leaving many drivers stranded.
Many took to X to say they had been caught in the closure.
One social media user wrote: "Yes, being stuck in traffic is tedious.
“But for those complaining about being stuck in the M25 closure, be grateful that you are safe in your car.
“For the road to be closed, that is clearly not the case for those involved!!"
Yes, being stuck in traffic is tedious. But for those complaining about being stuck in the #M25 closure, be grateful that you are safe in your car. For the road to be closed, that is clearly not the case for those involved!!

National Highways confirmed that temporary repairs were also carried out to the “nearside barrier” during this time.
Two ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance also attended the scene.
The road block was lifted at around 4.30am this morning (Christmas Eve).
