Throughout the month of February, we’re telling the story of the 21 teenagers who were murdered in 2023. Our campaign, The 21, seeks to remember every victim as a young person with a family and their whole life ahead of them. We want to change the culture of kids carrying knives and becoming involved in violence.

This is the story of Yusuf Mohamoud, an 18-year-old boy, who was stabbed to death in Finchley in 2023.

Here is a timeline of events and everything we know so far about his death:

Monday, August 7:

Yusuf Mohamoud was found seriously injured in Regents Park Road at 9.40pm on August 7.

The 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.

Wednesday, August 9:

A 15-year-old teenager was arrested on suspicion of murder on August 9. 

He was taken into police custody.

Investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Neil Rawlinson said: "I would reiterate my appeal to anyone who was in the area of Regents Park Road, near the junction with Lichfield Grove, and who witnessed the events that led to the attack on Yusuf to come forward and speak to police.”

Friday, August 11:

Two 15-year-old boys, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, were charged with murder of Yusuf on August 11.

The two appeared in custody at Willesden Youth Court on August 12, while police investigations continue to find a third suspect.

They were scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Rawlinson, who led the investigation, said: "We have made good progress and this is a significant development, however our investigation continues and we are still working to locate a third suspect.

"With that in mind, I would reiterate my appeal to anyone who was in the area of Regent's Park Road, near to the junction with Lichfield Grove, and who witnessed the events that led to the attack on Yusuf, to get in touch.”

"Another young man has died as a result of violence and we need the public's help to ensure Yusuf’s family get the justice they deserve."

Tuesday, August 15:

A man was charged with the murder of Yusuf on August 15.

Tyrese Jennings, 20, of Litchfield Grove, Finchley, was charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was scheduled to appear at Willesden Magistrates’ Court during the day.
