We’ve rounded up all of the Southern closures and changes affecting south London this Christmas week.

On Christmas Day, no Southern services will be running on the day, followed by a limited service running on Boxing Day.

Between Wednesday (December 27) and Friday (December 29) Southern will be running an amended late night and early morning service via Streatham Hill affecting a number of services.

Between Wednesday (December 27) and Thursday (December 28) buses will replace trains between Crystal Palace and West Croydon via Norwood Junction due to planned engineering works.

Tuesday, December 26 - Limited Southern service

On Boxing Day, Southern will be operating a limited service.

From 5am until 8:30am:

  • Two trains will run per hour between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport, calling at Clapham Junction and East Croydon.

From 8:30am until 9pm:

  • One train will run per hour between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport, calling at Clapham Junction and East Croydon.
  • One train will run per hour between London Victoria and Brighton, calling at Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Gatwick Airport, Three Bridges and Haywards Heath.
  • Two trains will run per hour between London Victoria and Sutton via Selhurst and West Croydon, calling at Battersea Park, Clapham Junction, Wandsworth Common, Balham, Streatham Common, Norbury, Thornton Heath, Selhurst, West Croydon, Waddon, Wallington and Carshalton Beeches.
  • Two trains will run per hour between London Victoria and East Croydon via Crystal Palace, calling at Battersea Park, Clapham Junction, Balham, Streatham Hill, West Norwood, Gypsy Hill, Crystal Palace and Norwood Junction.
  • Other routes and the above routes at other times will have no service.

From 9pm until 11pm:

  • Two trains will run per hour between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport, calling at Clapham Junction and East Croydon.

Wednesday, December 27 to Friday, December 29 - Amended late night and early morning Southern service via Streatham Hill

Between Wednesday and Friday, overnight engineering work taking place between Streatham Hill and Crystal Palace will close some liens.

Which stations are affected?

Due to this a number of services will be impacted throughout the day:

  • The 11:56pm London Bridge to Selhurst train will depart 12:01am on Thursday and Friday and run later. A replacement bus service will run, connecting from this train at Tulse Hill and will run to Norwood Junction via Crystal Palace.
  • The 12:01am service on Thursday and Friday from London Bridge to Norwood Junction train will not run.
  • The 12:10am train on Thursday and Friday running from London Victoria to Norwood Junction will terminate at Streatham Hill. A replacement bus will run from Streatham Hill to Norwood Junction via Crystal Palace.
  • The 12:40am train on Thursday and Friday from London Victoria to Norwood Junction will terminate at Streatham Hill. A replacement bus will run from Streatham Hill to Norwood Junction via Crystal Palace.

Wednesday, December 27 to Thursday, December 28 - Buses replace trains between Crystal Palace and West Croydon via Norwood Junction

Between Wednesday and Thursday, engineering work taking place between Crystal Palace and West Croydon via Norwood Junction will close some lines on these days.

Which stations are affected?

All day on Wednesday and Thursday:

  • A replacement bus service will replace trains between Crystal Palace and West Croydon via Norwood Junction.
  • A reduced service will run between London Victoria and Crystal Palace. Southern customers are being advised to between London Victoria and London Bridge.
  • Trains on the Purley and Tattenham Corner routes will only run between Purley and Ceterham or Tattenham Corner. Southern customers are advised to use services running between Purley and London Bridge.
  • Trains between London Bridge or London Victoria and Epsom or Dorking or Horsham will run to an amended and reduced timetable. Customers are being advised that tickets will also be accepted on Southwestern Railway trains running between Epsom and Dorking.
  • Trains which usually run between Reigate and London Victoria will only run between Reigate and Redhill. Southern customers are being advised to use alternative trains between Redhill and London on these days.
  • Trains running between London Bridge and Beckenham Junction will not run on these days. Southern customers are being advised to use there tickets on London Tram services between East Croydon and Beckenham Junction and to use alternative trains between London Bridge and East Croydon.
