30 people evacuated a block of flats as a huge fire broke out in Lewisham
Firefighters were called to Dartmouth Road in Forest Hill on Sunday (December 17) just after 9pm.
Part of a two-roomed flat on the second floor was damaged by the fire.
No injuries were reported and the fire was under control by around 10pm.
The fire is believed to be an accident involving a lithium battery.
Firefighters have issued a warning to those storing lithium batteries in order to stay safe.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Lithium batteries are susceptible to failure if incorrect chargers are used, so it’s important to always use the correct charger for the product and buy an official one from a reputable seller.
"You should unplug your charger when you have finished using it and we would advise not to leave it unattended or charging while people are asleep.
“Batteries can present a fire risk if they’re over-charged, short circuited, submerged in water or damaged, so it’s really important to protect them against being damaged too.
“Try to ensure they are not getting knocked around while in use or while being carried as this can increase the chance of damage to cells.”
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson added: “Firefighters have issued another reminder of their lithium battery safety advice following a fire at a block of flats on Dartmouth Road in Forest Hill on Sunday.
“Part of a two-roomed flat on the second floor was damaged by the fire.
“Around 30 people left the building before the Brigade arrived.
“There were no reports of any injuries.
“The fire is believed to have been accidental and involved a lithium battery.
“The Brigade was called at 2106 and the fire was under control by 2157.
“Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Forest Hill, Lewisham, Peckham and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.”
