A teen catalytic converter thief has been sentenced to 10 months at a youth offenders institute.
Edward Ward, of Hayden Drive in Pinner, was caught stealing a catalytic converter in Gravesend on March 29, 2021.
On the same day the 18-year-old was also caught armed with tools used for the theft of motor vehicles – named a hacksaw, a blade, a drill, rubber gloves and a metal bar.
On November 27, 2023, Ward appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court after he was found guilty of theft and being armed for motor vehicle theft.
The court heard that he had previously been convicted of taking a motor vehicle without the owners consent and driving dangerously in Medway.
Magistrate Sarah Emily Turnock sentenced Ward to 10 months at a youth offenders institution – noting that this was necessary as he was unable or unwilling to comply with a community order.
