Babur in Forest Hill has been named as winner of the Best Fine Dining Restaurant at the Asian Curry Awards 2023.
The restaurant first opened its doors in 1985 and has been in business for 38 years, serving gourmet Indian cuisine.
Its menu features a range of innovative Indian dishes including a swordfish tikka masala and mango brulée.
The restaurant offers a range of menus, including a tasting menu, seasonal menus for special occasions such as Diwali, and a Sunday buffet.
Along with its Indian cuisine, the restaurant also has a large menu of cocktails, featuring classics along with a range of in-house specials.
The Asian Curry Awards celebrates Britain’s best Asian restaurants, featuring contestants representing Asia's rich and diverse cuisine, from Indian to Nepalese.
Restaurants are nominated for a range of awards in different categories, from fine dining and newcomer of the year awards, to types of cuisine such as vegan and Asian fusion.
Known as the “Curry Oscars”, restaurants are nominated by the general public and then assessed by judges from the Asian Curry Federation (ACF), before the winners are announced at an awards ceremony.
This year the Asian Curry Awards announced a shortlist of over 200 venues from across the UK, which the public voted on, before the list was narrowed down to the top 100 restaurants for the judging phase.
The awards ceremony took place on November 19 in central London, where the winners were announced.
Babur was one of five restaurants to win at this year's Asian Curry Awards along with iNaga in West Wickham, The Bombay in Orpington, Indian Essence in Petts Wood, and Panas Gurkha in Chislehurst.
The restaurant also recently won Best Restaurant at the Mayor of Lewisham Business Awards 2023, which took place on November 7.
Babur’s owner, Emdad Rahman, said: "We are truly honoured to be named the Best Fine Dining Restaurant at the Asian Curry Awards.
“This recognition is a tribute to the hard work and passion of our team. We are committed to providing an exceptional dining experience to our guests, and this award is a testament to our dedication."
