Chef Nanu Miah at iNaga in Coney Hall in West Wickham is celebrating winning Best Chef at the Asian Curry Awards 2023.
This marks the sixth time the restaurant has won this award, having collected the gong five times between years between 2014 and 2019.
The restaurant serves traditional Bangladeshi dishes, along with a range of Indian beers and other beverages at their in-house bar.
Some of the restaurant's most popular dishes include Naga chicken and the I Pie lamb curry and creamed potatoes, as well as a national favourite – the classic chicken tikka masala.
The Asian Curry Awards celebrate Britain’s best Asian restaurants with cuisine ranging from Indian, Thai, Chinese, Malaysian and Sri Lankan restaurants.
Restaurants are nominated for a range of awards in different categories, from fine dining and newcomer of the year awards, to types of cuisine such as vegan and Asian fusion.
Known as the “Curry Oscars”, restaurants are nominated by the general public and then assessed by judges from the Asian Curry Federation (ACF), before the winners are announced at an awards ceremony.
The awards ceremony took place on November 19 in central London, where the winners were announced.
The restaurant was one of five south east London restaurants that won at this year's awards, alongside Babur in Forest Hill, The Bombay in Orpington, Indian Essence in Petts Wood, and Panas Gurkha in Chislehurst.
Owner Abdul Hay told News Shopper he was “thrilled” to win the award, and planned to celebrate with a party to mark his achievements.
Mr Hay said: “I am absolutely thrilled that we have won this award.
“I am so proud of all of my team who work tirelessly to make iNaga the best restaurant around.
“In January I am going to throw a huge party to celebrate our latest achievement, with a delicious feast, champagne and entertainment. We are ending 2023 on a high note and we will see in 2024 even higher.“
