The Apollo Arms is a beautiful pub with a traditional feel just a five minute walk from Clapham old town.
I love a nice pub and this one has stunning royal colours and dark wood – perfect for a classy evening in an English pub.
On Mondays, The Apollo Arms runs its curry club where diners can choose one of three delicious curries to enjoy.
There is a fish curry, a chickpea curry and a chicken curry available to try and the restaurant was kind enough to allow us to try all three of them to get a feel for the evening.
My personal favourite was the chicken – it was slightly sweeter and creamer and the pulled chicken was moist and tender.
However, I could have demolished every single one of the three dishes.
The chickpea curry was tomato based and the chickpeas were soft with a hint of spice.
While none of the curries were spicy enough to be unsuitable for anyone with a low heat-tolerance, I would say the fish curry was the spiciest.
It came with prawns, white fish and chilli and, as someone who has not had a fish curry before, I have to say it was a ten out of ten.
Each curry came with naan bread and rice to soak up the incredible plates with – we even received mango chutney to add even more flavour to the already punchy curries.
If that wasn’t amazing enough, we were given three side dishes to complement our main – coconut dahl, roasted potatoes and charred, spicy broccoli.
The potatoes were seasoned with Indian spices giving them heaps of flavour and, in my opinion, they really stole the spotlight.
However, I also love broccoli and the char with the chilli was extremely flavourful and delicious.
But, my favourite thing about the Apollo Arms has to be the atmosphere.
It’s relaxed, it’s cosy and it’s casual but still feels high-quality and high-end.
What really sets it apart from other pub restaurants, for me, is the service.
The staff here are so incredibly friendly and chatty, making us feel as though we were friend throughout the evening.
It really made the experience more personal and fun for us both – the chef even popped out to say hello and make sure we were enjoying the different curries.
If you are in Clapham, I insist that you visit the Apollo Arms, it gets five stars from me.
