Babur in Forest Hill is a restaurant first established in 1985, offering guests a fine-dining Indian experience with a range of menus, including a tasting menu, seasonal menus for special occasions and a Sunday buffet.
Along with their Indian cuisine, the restaurant also has a large menu of cocktails, featuring classics like a Margarita and house specials like their popular Currytini.
The restaurant this year celebrated its 38th anniversary and is currently running a Diwali menu until November 31.
The restaurant also features an outdoor marquee for events and functions.
The business was awarded Best Restaurant at the Mayor of Lewisham Business Awards 2023, which brings together the best of Lewisham's businesses across a number of sectors from hospitality to entertainment.
Babur was one of seven restaurants in the running to win Best Restaurant, and it has also won a number of other awards this year, including the Asian Restaurant Awards in September.
Babur’s owner, Emdad Rahman, said: "We are truly honoured to be named the 'Best Restaurant' at the Mayor of Lewisham Business Awards.
"This recognition is a tribute to the hard work and passion of our team. We are committed to providing an exceptional dining experience to our guests, and this award is a testament to our dedication.
"We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the community for their support and for voting for us.
“We are proud to be a part of Lewisham, and we look forward to continuing to serve you with the best of our cuisine."
This year Lewisham Council received over 2,000 nominations for the awards for Lewisham residents' favourite local businesses.
The awards ceremony took place on November 7 at Broadway Theatre in Catford, where the winners across 14 categories were announced.
Damien Egan, Mayor of Lewisham, said: "We are so lucky in Lewisham to have a real mix of local, independent, and often family-run businesses who go above and beyond to serve our community. It’s great to see that reflected with these awards.
“Many congratulations to all the winners and nominees, who are the jewel in the borough’s crown, and a big thank you to everyone who voted.”
Cllr Kim Powell, Cabinet Member for Businesses, Jobs and Skills, said: “It’s great to have an opportunity to celebrate the fantastic achievements, resilience and innovation of our independent businesses. They contribute so much to the fabric of life in Lewisham as well as to the economy.
“A huge well done to this year’s winners and runners-up who represent the best of the borough - they should all be very proud indeed.”
