The Good Food Awards has named its winners for best fish and chips in the UK, and three south east London chippies have made the list.
The aim of the Good Food Awards is to celebrate and acknowledge “culinary excellence” across the UK.
The awards began in 2002 and the organisation has worked to “promote and bolster local, independent businesses that create delectable food”.
The Good Food Awards see these businesses as the “backbone” of a community and want to give them the recognition they deserve.
So, these are the south east London fish and chip shops and restaurants that have won the awards:
Brockley’s Rock, Brockley
One of the three fish and chip shops to make the list was Brockley’s Rock, and it is not their first time.
Brockley’s Rock also won the award in 2020-2021 and is one of the UK’s 60 chip shops to be awarded in the National Fish and Chip awards.
All the food here is prepared and cooked onsite to give the freshest fish imaginable.
To make fish and chips more accessible, this chippy also offers gluten-free and vegan options, using separate pans to cook the gluten-free option to avoid contamination.
They even offer grilled fish for anyone in search of a lighter option.
The Village Fish and Chips, Petts Wood
The Village Fish and Chips is a loved chippy in Orpington.
It is a family run business and has been voted by the Seafish Industry Authority as one of the best fish and chip shops in the UK.
Their aim has always been to provide customers with top quality fish that is sustainable and responsibly sourced.
They cook with Maris Piper potatoes, sourced from UK farms that The Village Fish and Chips visits personally and the chips are prepared onsite each day.
Eltham Grill House, Eltham
Eltham Grill House has been serving the community for over 50 years.
It is also a family run business, priding itself on providing guests with high-quality fish handpicked by its chefs each day.
The menu here is designed to offer a range of seafood and grilled dishes and the restaurant aspires to welcome guests as they would their own home, comforting and satisfying them.
