The only thing better than pizza for dinner is left-over pizza for breakfast the following day.
Luckily for me, when I went to try Japes’ new London-style pizza I came away with both.
Set in the heart of Soho, Japes are known for their Chicago-style deep dish pizza, but their team have come up with a new creation – London style pizza.
As our waiter told us, this was a combination of the best bits of their Chicago along with elements of Detroit style, Sicilian style and grandma style (I had to google Grandma style and found out it’s a thin, rectangular style from Long Island).
We went for some delicious garlic bread and padron peppers to start.
Then I went for a London-style pizza and chose the spicy picante which is topped with tomato sauce, pepperoni, peppers, nduja, mozzarella, parmesan and basil.
My pizza was incredible with caramelised cheese and generous servings of all the toppings.
My partner went for the buffala which came with tomato sauce, buffalo mozzarella, sun-fried tomato, mozzarella and rocket.
The dough on each pizza was lovely and light but the pizzas were huge – so big that we ended up taking enough for another meal each home with us.
As well as great pizza, Japes provides a very relaxed dining experience.
There’s nothing that ruins a meal more for me than when you feel like the staff are trying to rush you in and out so they can turn the table over.
It was quite the opposite here and I could have happily stayed all night just enjoying the buzzy atmosphere.
We left with full stomachs from the pizza and armed with a takeaway box full of leftovers – which tasted just as good the next day.
