A flood alert has been issued for Dartford as Storm Ciaran hits the south east of the UK today.

The UK Government website has said that flooding is possible in this area and that local water levels and weather conditions should be monitored.

The area at risk of flooding is from Westerham to Dartford, including Brasted, Sundridge, Chipstead, Dunton Green, Otford, Eynsford and South Darent due to the River Darent.

People are being told to avoid using low-lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding.

If you have a flood plan in place, the government recommends acting on it now.

Environment Agency Flood Warning officers set the river or tidal levels that trigger a flood warning.

A UK Government spokesperson said: “Flooding is possible in this area.

“Monitor local water levels and weather conditions.

“Avoid using low lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding. Start acting on your flood plan if you have one.

“Environment Agency Flood Warning Officers set the river or tidal levels that have triggered this message.

“During industrial action this message has been automatically issued based on rising river or tidal levels.

“Flood alert area: River Darent from Westerham to Dartford, including Brasted, Sundridge, Chipstead, Dunton Green, Otford, Eynsford and South Darenth.”

Further weather warnings have been issued for rain and wind in the south east of the UK today as Storm Ciarán hits London bringing a barrage of bad weather.

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for rain and wind in the south east until 11:59pm today (Thursday, November 2) as a result of the storm.

Most areas could see rainfall of up to 30mm, although some areas could see anything between 40mm-60mm of rain over the coming days.

Strong winds are also set to hit the south east today as a result of Storm Ciarán, with most areas potentially experiencing winds of up to 60 miles per hour.
