A burnt-out van has been abandoned in the middle of the road in Shooters Hill and residents are concerned about the safety of the area.

The van allegedly appeared on Sunday night (October 8) on Eaglesfield Road SE18 and has still not been removed as of October 11.

Locals have voiced their concerns on X, formerly known as Twitter, wondering whose responsibility it is to clear the obstruction and shattered glass.

One post says: “Eaglesfield Rd SE18. Just wondering who is it down to for this van to be removed? Court on Friday Sunday evening and just been left in the middle of the road.”

Another reads: “Still there on Eaglesfield Road causing an obstruction. No warning signs. It’s an accident waiting to happen, especially with cars driving on the pavement to get round it @Royal_Greenwich @MPSGreenwich @MPSShootersHill.

“Who’s responsible for cleaning this up on Eaglesfield Road please @Royal_Greenwich “There’s shattered glass on the pavement and also on the edge of the grass on the park. It’s not safe for dogs/cats/kids.”

A section of the road directly surrounding the van has been cordoned off, but some social media users have said that they have seen drivers have chosen to mount the pavement to bypass it.

The Metropolitan Police said that it was first reported on October 8 and the Greenwich Council was set to collect it on October 9.

Greenwich Council has been contacted for a comment and News Shopper are awaiting a response.

London Fire Brigade have also been contacted for further information.
