I’ve found one of the best chains in London for those who love all things sushi and all things Japanese food.
Sticks’n’Sushi has restaurants all over London, including in Greenwich, Soho, Covent Garden, White City, Shoreditch and Wimbledon to name a few.
There’s also a brand new branch just opened in Kingston – joining also restaurants in Oxford and Cambridge.
It’s upmarket, the food is absolutely delicious, and the menu is huge with multiple different options and flavours including sashimi, maki, nigiri and the infamous sticks.
There’s an a la carte option, and also options to choose from different types of set menus dependant on what flavours tickle your fancy.
I went on a Thursday evening to the Soho restaurant which was unsurprisingly busy – it’s in a great location in the heart of London, surrounded by pubs, bars and shops.
The restaurant has a dark theme which creates atmosphere, and makes it a perfect place for a date night, like my boyfriend and I had, or a treat out with friends.
We decided to go with the a la carte menu, and chose a selection of dishes from there to share.
These included the shake tataki which is a seared salmon in a ponzu sauce, and the fried cauliflower which is served with black truffle goma.
I don’t actually like truffle but I genuinely think this was my favourite dish of the evening. It wasn’t too truffley which I really appreciated.
We also ordered the tuna tartare bites which came on mini crackers, and grilled edamame which I hadn’t had before.
I always ordered edamame, but the char-grilled taste on them really worked.
The sashimi mix of yellowtail, salmon and tuna was extremely fresh and melt-in-the-mouth and we also got the house maki which had miso-marinated black cod – divine.
The main part at any Sticks’n’Sushi visit is always the sticks, and I had a salmon teriyaki and a miso black cod one.
WOW – no more words needed really.
These are always my favourites and they come with generous, juicy fish which has been cooked to perfection on a stick.
I can’t wait to go back to another of the Sticks'n'Sushi locations.
