New information obtained by the News Shopper has revealed the roads with the highest number of potholes in Greenwich – as reported over the last three years.
A Freedom of Information request submitted to Greenwich Council has revealed which roads in Greenwich received the highest number of pothole and surface defect reports between 2019 and 2022.
The road with the highest number of pothole reports within the three year period was Shooters Hill, with six reports in 2019, 14 in 2020 and 23 in 2021.

2019
In 2019, a total of 393 reports of potholes were made to Greenwich Council, spanning across 211 roads.
Between 2019 and 2020 the roads with the highest recorded number of potholes reported to Greenwich Council were Old Coal Yard with 16 potholes, Tunnel Avenue with 11 potholes and Westcombe Hill with 11 potholes.

A total of £303,103.18 was spent in 2019 in repair works on potholes and other road surface defects.
40 claims were made during this same period for compensation, while three claims were paid by the council and 37 rejected, costing the council £601.73.
2020
In 2020, a total of 413 reports of potholes were made to Greenwich Council which spanned across 204 roads.
The roads with the highest number of pothole reports submitted by Greenwich Council in 2020 were Shooters Hill with 14 potholes, Brampton Road with 12 potholes and Avery Hill Road with 10 potholes.

In 2020, £278,666.44 was spent on pothole and surface defect repair works by the council and a further £2,449.24 spent on compensation claims.
28 compensation claims were made to Greenwich Council in 2020, with six paid and 22 rejected.
2021
In 2021, Greenwich Council received 587 reports of potholes spanning across 251 of the roads in Greenwich.
The road with the highest number of reported potholes in 2021 was Stadium Road with 29 potholes.
This was followed by Shooters Hill with 23 potholes and Woolwich Road with 15 potholes in that same year.

A total of £333,264.42 was spent on pothole and surface defect repair works in 2021 with a further £2,472.53 paid in compensation claims.
In 2021, Greenwich Council received 32 compensation claims related to potholes, with five paid and 25 rejected.
