AT LAST month's meeting, The Story behind your Cuppa was introduced by Alan Payne, the son of a tea taster.
It covered a fascinating historical background.
Although tea was first grown in China, followed by India and Ceylon (Sri Lanka) plantations can be found in many other countries, including a source in Cornwall.
Fragrant teas originated from accidental contamination during transportation but when tasted proved popular and other flavours were then developed and marketed.
The Tetley tea bag in America evolved 100 years ago.
Tea samples were sent in a silk purse for tasting which resulted in the idea of tea in a bag.
However it was as late as the 1950s before tea in this form gained popularity in the UK.
It will be interesting to reflect on the many aspects of the tea trade when enjoying a relaxed cuppa.
The guild's next meeting will be at 7.45pm on July 23 at the Rosary Catholic Church Hall, Hayes.
Ms Diane Rimel BA will give a talk on The Isle of Dogs.
