Plans for a new ‘futuristic’ home in South London have been labelled an ‘eyesore’ by neighbours.

Greenwich Council has received plans for a new three-bedroom house on Dallin Road in Shooters Hill.

The application seeks to build a new two-storey home on the land at the corner of Dallin Road and Mayplace Lane.

The house is planned to include a green roof, courtyard in the rear and nesting space for bees.

Planning documents from London Design House, on behalf of the applicant, said: “The brief for the scheme is to create a modern family home that will seamlessly blend into its beautiful surroundings, designed with a strong sustainable basis that fulfils the clients own self-build ideas whilst being flexible, practical and sensitively considered.”

The plans have received 20 objections online from neighbours. Many criticisms were directed towards the building’s design, calling it “futuristic” and “unattractive”.

One objection in council documents was summarised as: “Design would look dated overtime and become an eyesore in comparison to adjacent dwellings.”

Greenwich Council’s urban design officer was reportedly consulted after the objections on the design were received.

The officer described the home as having good quality materials and an “expressive and legible form” that is sympathetic to the historic context of Greenwich borough.

The applicant, Luke Hill, previously put forward plans for the house in February 2022, which were refused due to the home’s “excessive” footprint and bulk.

Council documents described the current plans as being reduced in scale compared to the previous proposals.

Council officers said in their report: “It is considered that the design in this instance is acceptable with regard its impact on the character and appearance of the surrounding area and the previous reasons for refusal have been overcome with regard to design and appearance and the structure would no longer be considered a discordant or incongruous structure within the streetscene.”

The site for the proposed home on Dallin Road was visited by members of the planning committee for Greenwich Council on September 21, before a formal meeting to discuss the plans is scheduled.
