A video has gone viral on TikTok of a mountain of deliveries left uncollected in the backroom of a McDonald’s restaurant in Orpington.
The video, which was posted on September 9, shows multiple delivery bags left along a section of a metal floor.
It also seems to show delivery drivers attempting to pick up orders with more deliveries piled up on the collections counter.
The footage, which has now been deleted on TikTok, had reached more than 490,000 views.
It was captioned: “Sort out your mess. It's a disaster McDonald Orpington Kitchen. Lots of food has been wasted.”
A spokesperson for McDonald’s confirmed its delivery kitchen experienced an issue with a small number of delivery couriers.
It added that this resulted in a number of orders failing to be collected in the appropriate timeframe.
Some foodies were left shocked in the comments of the video following the chaotic scenes.
According to the MailOnline, one commented: “Why did they keep making it if it wasn’t being picked up?”
Another one said: “No wonder I got the wrong food.”
Although the fast food chain was criticised in the comments, some were understanding of the issue.
One person said: “As a McDonald's worker I can say that head office won't let us turn off deliveries and we also have to make all orders as soon as they come through.”
Food products are first packed into smaller bags and then placed into a larger bag, according to McDonald's website.
Packaging is then double-folded with stickers added to each corner, along with a receipt displaying the order's delivery number.
The full statement from a spokesperson for McDonald’s said: “On Friday evening our Orpington Delivery Kitchen experienced an issue with a small number of delivery couriers, which resulted in a number of orders failing to be collected in the appropriate timeframe.
“We are thoroughly investigating this with our delivery partners to ensure this does not happen again.”
