A man has been taken to hospital after a flat was destroyed in a Charlton fire.
Fire crews were called to Prentiss Court on Saturday (September 9) at around 8am.
A flat on the first-floor of a two-storey block was destroyed by the fire.
One man left before the firefighters arrived at the scene and was taken to hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation.
Fire crews believe the blaze was started by the unsafe disposal of smoking materials.
The fire was under control by around 9.20am.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "We'd rather you didn't smoke at all, but if you are a smoker, it's absolutely vital you ensure your cigarette is completely out when you've finished smoking it.
"If you don't, you risk causing a fire which could not only destroy properties but also cost you your life."
