I never thought I’d be able to liken south London to the Amalfi Coast but I’ve found a restaurant which certainly helps.

Napoli on the Road has opened its second restaurant in Richmond, and it’s just as good as the first one in Chiswick.

It’s got stunning Italian décor and a menu of starters, pizza and dessert.

The ceiling is covered in lemons with hanging light bulbs, and especially when the weather is nice outside it really gives it that authentic Italian feel.

The Richmond restaurant has the same large pizza oven feature as in the Chiswick branch, and it’s not really a surprise the pizza is so good when you see it.

There’s a stunning bar feature on the wall which goes quite high up with all different drinks bottles on, and it just has such a warm feel throughout.

I went with two of my friends for a lovely mid-week catch up and the restaurant was full which is always nice to see, especially at a new independent.

We got wines and Aperol spritz’s between us, to get into the true European vibe, and didn’t stop chatting pretty much the whole time we were there.

The waiters and waitresses were helpful with recommendations, and my two friends got the bruschetta to start while I got the caprese salad.

Both were generous portions, and both pretty much a bread, tomato and cheese based option – just with different cheeses.

The tomatoes and cheeses were fresh and tasty and we couldn’t wait to get onto main course.

There are a huge number of pizzas available to order on the menu, some with tomato bases and some with cheese bases, but the helpful staff also let you sort of ‘make your own’ too if there are toppings you do or don’t want.

I had a mushroom pizza with some tuna added on, my friend had just mushroom and my other friend had added buffalo mozzarella.

There’s not really much more I can say other than the pizza is just incredible, doughy but not too much, fresh tomato sauce, cheese-y without being too stringy, and delicious toppings.

The pizzas are big, but not overwhelmingly so, and we took the rest of ours home in pizza boxes to have the next day – which fyi I thoroughly enjoyed, and it was just as nice even then.

It’s nice to support an independent restaurant that genuinely has great food, friendly faces and a gorgeous Italian interior.

If you’re near Chiswick or Richmond, or both, Napoli on the Road is where you need to go.
