A popular south London pub has reopened its doors after a £200,000 transformation.
The George Canning in Camberwell showcased the renovation to customers on Wednesday, August 23 and will host a grand, launch party weekend on the first weekend in September.
The 19th-century pub is named after the British Statesman and now has a completely new look and feel for pub-goers.
Inside the pub, the layout has now been changed which managers of the pub say will increase seating capacity giving guests the chance to enjoy more drinks and the entertainment that will now be offered.
Some of the entertainment the pub will host includes a live DJ and music, quiz nights and “jukebox oldies”.
Alongside the physical renovation, The George Canning has revamped its drinks menu with more beers, wines and cocktails.
The pub’s outside has also had a facelift, and with some sun left people will have the chance to enjoy a drink in the sun there.
With brand new HD TV screens all with TNT and Sky Sports, sports lovers won’t have to miss any of the action, as all the latest live sports will be screened regularly.
The George Canning has also installed a darts board for any customers wanting to participate in some friendly competition themselves.
There are plans for The George Canning pub to carry out some fundraising initiatives for Cancer Research and The London Animal Hospital.
Both charities are close to Operator Johnathon Robinson’s heart as he had a family member who passed away from cancer and has a huge love of animals.
Johnathon said: “I am so excited to open the doors to everyone and show off the new look George Canning.
“We will have so much going on at the pub that all guests can enjoy and am particularly looking forward to partying with students on the weekend and watching matches with all the sports fans.
“The George Canning is here for all members of the community, and I can’t wait to get to know you all, put my stamp on the place and celebrate our wonderful investment.”
Across that first weekend of September, the George Canning will be hosting its grand launch weekend for the Camberwell community to get involved with.
On Friday (September 1), Johnathon and the team will host stilt walkers kicking off the night, followed by DJ Shimia providing the perfect soundtrack and there will be complimentary pizza all night long.
On Saturday (September 2), there will be live music from 8pm by the five-piece soul band The Soul Cats.
Rounding off the weekend on Sunday (September 3), will be a family friendly evening.
From 2pm that day, the pub will welcome a magician, performing a mesmerising magic show along with face painting.
