Several car tyres have been slashed at a “peaceful” protest against the ULEZ scheme in Bromley yesterday (August 12).
The incident occurred on Kentish way, at the junction of Widmore Road at around 1.20pm.
The Met Police has confirmed they are “investigating” a report of criminal damage after several car tyres were slashed.
Officers have been in contact with the owners of the cars and have got a photo of a suspect.
The protest is to bring awareness to the ULEZ scheme introduced by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.
A witness at the scene, Pete Farrell, told reporter Emily Davison that 15 tyres have been slashed on vehicles which are parked at the protest.
Pete said: “Someone has, with a knife, slashed 15 tyres on at least six or seven vehicles.
“One vehicle has had three tyres slashed and the windscreen has been egged.”
Pete claims his car was one of the vehicles targeted.
“This is a peaceful awareness day for making people aware of the scandalous tax that is coming in on the poor”, Pete added, “it is going to hit the people the hardest that are on the breadline struggling to make ends meet.
“What would be the reason for someone to slash someone’s tyre that is making people aware of a tax that is coming in against the poor.
“What is going through their heads.”
A driver at the protest, Max Mingozzi, claims that three out of four of his vehicle tyres have been slashed with a knife.
He said: “I first noticed it happened around an hour ago.
“There are only three tyres that have been stabbed, so it’s not the end of the world.
“But really, was it necessary?
“What a mean spirited person, that’s all I can say.”
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “We are investigating a report of criminal damage after several car tyres were slashed in the Kentish Way area of Bromley on the afternoon of Saturday, 12 August.
“Officers have been in contact with the owners of the cars and have obtained a photo of a suspect.
"Enquiries are ongoing to locate him.”
