A man has been taken to hospital after firefighters rescued him from a maisonette fire on Bromley High Street.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters responded to a fire that broke out in a maisonette above a shop on August 4.

Fire crews arrived at the scene at 6.52pm.

The split-level maisonette on the second and third floors suffered significant damage from the fire.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued one man via an internal staircase, who was then taken to the hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

Another man managed to escape the property before the fire brigade arrived and was treated at the scene.

The brigade’s 999 officers received 13 calls reporting the fire.

Fire crews from Bromley, Beckenham, Woodside, and Lewisham fire stations brought the blaze under control by 8.12pm.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: "Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a maisonette above a shop on Bromley High Street.

“Most of a split-level maisonette on the second and third floors of the building were damaged by fire.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man via an internal staircase who was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

“A further man left the property before the Brigade arrived and was treated on scene.

“The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 13 calls to the blaze.

“The Brigade was called at 6.52pm and the fire was under control by 8.12pm “Fire crews from Bromley, Beckenham, Woodside and Lewis/ham fire stations attended the scene.

“The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental."
