New stops in north Bexley are to be added to the new Superloop bus service – here’s everything you need to know.
New areas are to be added to the new Superloop bus route following calls from Bexley Council to add the borough to the route.
The new Superloop bus route has begun its first phase offering Londoners travel around the region, as the ULEZ expansion is set to take effect on August 29.
The complete Superloop route is anticipated to be in full service by spring 2024.
A previous consultation led by Transport for London (TfL) did not include Abbey Wood or a link with the Elizabeth Line running from Abbey Wood station.
However, following calls from the council, TfL will be changing their plans to include Abbey Wood station and Thamesmead on the route.
Cabinet member for growth, Cllr Cafer Munur, said: “We know that we suffer from poor transport connections in our borough.
“This small tweak to TfL's plans will make a huge difference to residents and businesses in the north of the borough.”
A consultation on the new plans, which will add stops in the north of Bexley on the SL3 Service, has been launched by TfL today (July 21).
The SL3 service, running from Thamesmead to Bromley, previously didn’t include any stops linking passengers to the Elizabeth Line via Abbey Wood.
However, new plans would add additional stops to north Bexley, providing people with links between Bromley and Thamesmead via Bexley.
This service would accompany existing routes such as the 301 bus route between Thamesmead and Bexleyheath, and the 269 bus route between Bexleyheath and Bromley.
When and where will you be able to get it?
The SL3 service would run buses every 12 minutes from Monday to Saturday and every 15 minutes on evenings and Sundays.
The service would be provided at the stops used by SL3 as well as the 269 and the 301.
Where would the route stop at?
- Thamesmead Town Centre Carlyle Road / Crossway
- Abbey Wood Station - Harrow Manor Way and Florence Road (northbound only)
- Bexleyheath Station Lion Road (Bexleyheath Broadway)
- Bexleyheath Library (Bexleyheath Town Centre)
- Sidcup Station Carlton Road (Sidcup Town Centre)
- Queen Mary’s Hospital
- Chislehurst War Memorial
- Chislehurst Station
- Southborough Road / Bickley Station
- Widmore Road / Kentish Way (Bromley Town Centre) and Bromley Town Hall (westbound only)
- Bromley North Station
Cabinet member for places, Cllr Richard Diment, said: “This was a no brainer for us.
“The previous plans left out a large part of the borough and did not include the new Elizabeth Line.
“We urged TfL to look again at their plans and we are delighted that they have done so.”
