Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live like the characters in Bridgerton?
I visited The Old Hall in Ely for one night and, let me tell you, it is the place to be to live out your debutante fantasies.
It is only a few minutes away from Ely train station, which is just one hour from King’s Cross but once you go through the gates to the hotel you will feel as through you are miles away from anyone and anything.
The hotel is an enormous, beautiful Jacobean Manor House that is secluded from any hustle and bustle as you need to head through a long, private driveway to reach it.
The Old Hall is frequently used as a wedding venue, which explains its grandeur and elegance – I would be completely honoured to get married there.
My personal favourite feature at this hotel was its gardens.
They seemed to go on for as far as the eye could see with breathtaking bushes carved into swans, making it feel even more lavish and unique than it had already.
There is even a small lake as part of the gardens which makes a great spot for taking photos or a place to wander and have some peace.
My room was sensational with massive windows along one wall giving me views of the green spaces outside.
The décor is grand and luxurious, giving me a traditional English feel that really transported me into an extravagant period drama.
I was given a set menu for dinner, starting with king scallops served with a lobster bisque and apple foam.
The scallops were sweet and moist and the rich lobster bisque complemented them perfectly – it was a delicious dish.
For the main course, I was given Suffolk lamb rump with lamb fat potato terrine, a spring green salad and lamb sauce.
The lamb was tender and pink in the middle, with its flavour being enhanced by the sauce it came with.
And finally, for dessert I had poached rhubarb, a crystallised puff pastry and Chantilly cream.
Each course was paired with a particular wine designed to match the flavours which made the meal all the more special.
The tartness of the rhubarb cut through the sweetness of the pastry and the richness of the cream, hitting the ideal sweet spot to polish off the meal.
On the patio next to the gardens at The Old Hall are some outdoor fireplaces where we gathered to watch the sun set over Ely Cathedral in the distance.
Cosying up to the fire with a glass of rose and a blanket wrapped around me as it started to get cold was a truly magical summer experience that you just can’t get in the business of central London.
It was reinvigorating and relaxing to get away into the countryside for one night for some peace, quiet and luxury.
While I wasn’t visiting The Old Hall for a wedding, I can only imagine how incredible a wedding at this venue would be with so many picture perfect spots around the hotel as well as the attentive service and stunning location.
