A micropub pub with a unique name and history is serving up cask ales and community spirit with its small but mighty venue.
Located in the heart of Crayford at 3 Waterside, this pub was once a bike repair shop but has transformed itself into a haven for beer enthusiasts and cider connoisseurs alike.
Penny Farthing is managed by owner Stuart Leach and bar manager George Best, who together ensure that the pub runs smoothly and retains its unique charm.
The pub has a wide selection of craft beverages which you can enjoy inside or out, and it has additional outdoor seating where you can soak up the sun with your pint.
Stuart explained that Penny Farthing's unique name pays homage to its past - back to the era of the iconic high-wheel bicycle.
One of the pub's standout features is its overflow/function room, aptly named The Back Wheel, which is a space providing an ideal setting for private events, gatherings, and celebrations.
Penny Farthing takes pride in being a cask-led Micropub, offering a large selection of cask ales sourced directly from the cask in their bespoke chiller room.
Cider lovers are also in for a treat at Penny Farthing, as the pub showcases a wide range of ciders from across the country and the pub was awarded the Bexley 2022 Cider Pub of the Year award.
With an emphasis on variety, guests can explore an array of flavours, ensuring there's something to suit every pub-goer.
You can even get stuck into a complimentary cheese board on Sunday daytime.
Penny Farthing also caters to diverse dietary preferences, with many of their beers and all of their ciders being vegan and gluten-free.
In addition to their craft beverages, the pub provides an extensive range of wines, spirits, and cocktails.
Those opting for non-alcoholic alternatives can also choose from a selection of alcohol-free beers and spirits, ensuring that everyone can find something to enjoy.
Every other Wednesday, quiz enthusiasts gather for a trivia night and highly anticipated Bingo night is held once every two months, which consistently sells out.
For fans of darts and cribbage, Penny Farthing hosts bi-annual competitions that draw both skilled players and those simply looking to have a good time.
Penny Farthing also hosts an annual visit from the St Paulinus church choir along with mulled wine and hot cider to get pub-goers in the festive spirit.
They have also had visits from special guests such as the Hartley Morris Men for a regular dance and sing along.
These popular events showcase the pub's dedication to fostering a vibrant and engaging community atmosphere.
The pub ranks an impressive 4.8 on Google Maps with one reviewer saying: “This is such a nice place to go.
“Friendly staff. A very good range of local beers and ciders. They serve a range of spirits now as well. Cocktails galore. Well worth a visit.”
