From an 18th century castle to a cable car ride across the Thames – these are some of the best places to see great views of London from up high in south east London.
South east London offers some great places if you fancy seeing London from up high, whether you want to take a cable car over the Thames or see the views from an 18th century castle.
We’ve rounded up five of the best places we think you should visit if you want to get the best views of London from above.
IFS Cloud Cable Car
See the south east London skyline at 90 metres high aboard the IFS Cloud Cable Car, where you’ll be able to see landmarks like The O2, Canary Wharf, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Gherkin.
The IFS Cloud Cable Car claims to be the highest observation point on the Thames and is open from early morning until late evening, giving you great views of London at different times of the day.
You can take a cable car ride from the Greenwich Peninsula, which will take you on a 1km ride to the Royal Docks located near ExCel London.
Up at The O2 Experience
Another popular viewing point to see London, also in Greenwich, is the Up at The O2 experience, where visitors can walk across the famous dome of The O2 to see views of London.
The climb will give you 360-degree views of the London skyline, where you can see views up to 15 miles away.
You can choose what time of day you climb, anytime from as early as 10am up until 8:30pm with their Twilight Climb.
With The O2 being right under your feet you’ll be spoilt for choice for places to eat, drink and relax after you’ve worked up an appetite.
Severndroog Castle
Located in Oxleas Woods, Severndroog Castle offers great views of London from 132 metres high, where you’ll be able to see views of the Thames and famous landmarks.
You can climb up the steps to the 18th century castle’s Viewing Platform, which is open to visitors on Sundays between 10am – 4pm.
Greenwich Park
For a great, free view of London find a spot at the top of the hill just outside the Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park, to get great views and photos of the London skyline.
You’ll be able to spot the Thames, the Shard and the London Eye all within the picturesque setting of Greenwich Park, a perfect spot for a picnic.
