From the former Chapters restaurant to the newer Pets Corner shop – we’ve rounded up some of the biggest changes in Blackheath Village over the last 15 years.
Blackheath Village is a popular shopping spot in the Lewisham area and is home to a number of independent shops and well-known brands.
But it has also seen a number of shops come and go over the years on both Montpelier Vale and Tranquil Vale, and today we’ve rounded up five of the biggest changes.
Café Rouge now the Creatives Shop Number
16-18 Montpelier Vale used to be home to French bistro restaurant chain Café Rouge, which was in situ from September 2008 until August 2021.
Café Rouge announced the closure of its Blackheath store in July 2020 and the restaurant disappeared from Blackheath Village.
It was eventually replaced by Blackheath Creatives Pop Up Shop & Café which first opened in December 2021 selling locally sourced crafts.
Chapters Restaurant and now the Ivy Café
42-45 Montpelier Vale, which overlooks the heath itself, was formerly home to Chapters Restaurant, which was formerly named Chapter II before it was renamed to Chapters.
The restaurant offered a range of menu options from steaks to brunches, however the restaurant sadly closed its doors in 2017.
In 2018 the Ivy Café, part of the popular Ivy Restaurants chain, took its place serving a range of classic and contemporary dishes alongside its ever-changing seasonal menu.
Sisters & Daughters and then Cook
Where the Cook is now at number 18 Tranquil Vale was once the home to lifestyle boutique store Sisters & Daughters, formerly known as Stitches & Daughters.
Founded by Carola Reason and Julie Redfearn, this small independent boutique sold a range of items from homeware, clothing, and accessories.
The shop was eventually taken over by Julia McCulloch beween 2001-2007 with business partner Lady Wendy Stone.
Julia continued to run the business independantly until 2013 and was active member within the community of Blackheath until she closed the shop tha year.
Eventually it was replaced by frozen ready meal chain Cook in 2014.
Selectric and now Space NK
Number 33-35 Tranquil Vale was formerly occupied by Selectric, which sold domestic and commercial kitchen and laundry equipment.
The store was open between September 2008 until May 2018 when it eventually relocated to Lee High Road.
The space has since been taken over by Space NK, which opened in February 2020, selling luxury beauty brands like Hourglass and Diptyque Candles.
Cookery Nook and now Pets Corner
32 Montpelier Vale was once the home of family-run business Cookery Nook, selling specialist cookware items.

The business was open up until 2015 before it sadly closed in February 2016.
In May 2016 the premises were taken over by Topps Tiles up until March 2021, when it eventually moved to Westhorne Avenue.
Now the premises are occupied by Pets Corner, which opened in February 2022, selling all the essentials for pet owners.
