A man has been charged with possession of a firearm, a gun that is believed to be connected to a fatal shooting in a hostage incident in Dartford.

Hayley Burke was found injured after a disturbance in Priory Road at 12.40pm on Saturday (May 6). 

While armed police were at the scene, Hayley suffered injuries believed to have been caused by a handgun.

She was taken to a London hospital where she later died from her injuries on Monday evening (May 8).

Terry Beaton, of Groveherst Road in Dartford, was arrested on May 9 and has been charged with possession of a Smith and Wesson revolver.

The 28-year-old was also charged with possessing cannabis with intent to supply and driving while disqualified and without insurance.

He was remanded to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court today (May 11).

Kent Police confirmed on May 9 that a man, aged 29, was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound where he remains in a critical condition.

The force said he is being treated as a suspect and an investigation is being led by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “A man from Dartford has been charged in connection with the possession of a firearm.

“Terry Beaton was arrested on Tuesday 9 May in the Marine Drive area. He was later charged with being in possession of a prohibited firearm, namely a Smith and Wesson revolver, before the date of Friday 5 May.

“The 28-year-old was also charged with possessing cannabis with intent to supply, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

“Mr Beaton, of Groveherst Road, Dartford was remanded to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 11 May.”
