A grandson has pleaded guilty to manslaughter after he beat his grandad to death in their New Cross home.
Jack Forde, 25, attacked Christopher Martin, 74, in their shared home on Wild Goose Drive on May 28, 2021.
He appeared at the Old Bailey on Wednesday (April 12) where he pleaded not guilty to murder, but guilty to manslaughter by dimished responsibility.
Forde, who was wearing a blue tracksuit, told the court: "Not guilty to murder, guilty to manslaughter by dimished responsibility."
Emergency services rushed to their house just before 5am where they found the pensioner with critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at 5.57am.
Forde was arrested at the scene and later charged with murder.
A post-mortem examination held the following day gave the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head, chest and abdomen.
Describing the case as "extremely sad", Judge Anthony Leonard adjourned sentencing until May in order for a psychiatric report to take place.
Forde will remain in custody at HMP Belmarsh until sentencing.
