A new study has revealed that the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust sites are among the most flooded in the UK.
The report released by, Round Our Way, shows the top 10 worst affected NHS sites due to flooding between April 2021 and March 2022.
It has revealed there were 176 instances of flooding at NHS trusts, which mainly impacted General Acute Hospitals.
It states that trusts in the East of England and London were the worst affected with three London trusts appearing in the top five worst-hit locations.
A total of nine flooding incidents occurred in the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust sites, making it the fourth worst hit in the UK.
10 per cent of hospitals in the UK are at risk from flooding, with the issue increasing if climate change worsens, according to the report.
It highlights that Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow and Mid and South and Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey Mental Health Trust are also among the worst-hit NHS trusts.
A spokesperson for Lewisham and Greenwich Trust said: “The majority of the nine incidents recorded under ‘flood occurences triggering a risk assessment’ in the Estates Return Information Collection (ERIC) for 2020/21 related to minor roof leaks and blocked drains across our two hospitals and community sites.
"These were usually fixed on the day of the incident.
“The positioning of the Ravensbourne River and Ladywell Fields behind University Hospital Lewisham is designed to reduce the risk of flood.
"In addition, the Environment Agency has improved local flood defences to protect the hospital building and further improvements are planned.
"As a consequence, there has been no flooding at University Hospital Lewisham for several decades.”
