My friend and I recently visited one of the coolest wine bars in Hackney and we are itching to go back again.

The wine, the food and the atmosphere at Deep Cuts were excellent not to mention the attentive service from the bartenders.

Deep Cuts is distinctly recognisable outside from the neon blue sign, lighting up Mare Street.

There is a very cool, chilled out atmosphere inside of the bar with dim lights and armchairs, making the spot very comfortable and relaxing.

They offer a menu of various wines and cocktails, but the speciality at Deep Cuts is their extensive selection of vermouths.

The menu at Deep Cuts is divided into classic wines and then their deep cuts so that the skilled bar staff can offer you something more experimental based on your usual wine choice.

As a lover of pinot grigio, I was offered the castelnuovo del garda ‘custoza’ and I have to say, it may have been the best glass of wine that I have ever tasted.

I also tried the bar’s petali rose wine which was sweet and delicious without being sickly.

My friend sampled one of the popular cocktails at Deep Cuts, trying the lemontini.

She thought it was delicious, fresh and fruity and said that she would definitely return for another.

As well as the wine, the food served at Deep Cuts is sensational.

The standout dish was the chorizo au vin.

It was rich and smoky and the chorizo had almost melted into a delicious spread of sorts.

The dish was served with crusty bread and for me, the chorizo was the highlight of the visit.

We also tried the smoked chicken which was crispy, salty and – you guessed it – smoky all at the same time.

My friend was keen to try the grilled artichoke hearts in nori butter and absolutely adored how rich and earthy they tasted.

She also enjoyed the tempura soft-shelled crab – we gave the meal as a whole a 10/10.

The dishes are all small and can be ordered in a tapas style, the bar staff recommended two or three as a whole meal.

However, the meal didn’t end there as we tried the dessert option at Deep Cuts: The matcha chocolate truffles.

There is no other way to describe these other than heaven.

As an avid chocoholic I cannot stress enough how amazing these were, they were soft and rich and dusted in cocoa powder.

I can only describe this Hackney bar as underrated.

The atmosphere was casual and relaxed with music playing in the background quietly enough that you could still make conversation.

We visited on a weeknight, so it was slightly quiet, but we couldn’t actually get in on a Friday evening so can only assume that the place is buzzing at the weekend.

There is also a cellar underneath the bar area you see when you first walk in, making the place far bigger than it appears at first glance.

The seating is all comfortable enough that you can lounge around with your delectable glass of wine and feel perfectly at home.

I would say that the food is to die for, and I am excited to go back and try more of the dishes that I didn’t go for this time around.

Deep Cuts is truly a hidden gem of Hackney and I would travel from anywhere in London to sample their incredible array of wines and vermouths.
