A Wetherspoons pub in Greenwich has opened its doors, and the News Shopper has an exclusive first look.
The Stargazer pub, located inside the O2’s Entertainment District, has officially opened today (March 21).
The pub features a 3,800-square-foot beer garden with views across the Thames and Canary Wharf.
It will be open from 10am until 12.15am for seven days a week and will serve food throughout the day until 11pm.
Pictures taken by the News Shopper show the finalised look which has been in the works since November 2022.
Customers will be welcomed by a bright light-fitted neon sign, which reads: “The Stargazer, Wetherspoon Free House.”
The News Shopper spoke to pub “enthusiasts”, Joyce and Barrie Smith, who travelled from Rainham to see the opening.
The couple, who are in their 70s, are excited to see another “iconic” pub brand being added to London.
Barrie said: “We love Wetherspoons and what it stands for because it’s such a great value for money.
“We woke up extra early to get to the opening, as we wanted to be one of the first ones here.
“It’s great what they have done with this spot. It really is great, and it will be a massive value to Greenwich and the O2.
“We’ve visited over 150 Wetherspoons across the UK, and this is one of the best of them.
“It’s very modern and unique with all the features.”
Features include specially adapted toilets for wheelchair users, with the inner decor using copper material to represent the solar system and astronomy.
Sculptures and artwork are also displayed behind the bar, symbolising astronomy instruments, views, and stargazers.
The carpet, which is fitted throughout the pub, draws inspiration from orbiting stars and planets.
Historical photos and artwork of Greenwich’s history are also displayed in the venue.
The Stargazer will specialise in real ales and traditional ciders, as well as craft and world beers and will serve a range of different draught ales.
A spokesperson for Wetherspoons confirmed the name of the Stargazer was inspired due to its location, and the important role that Greenwich plays in the history of astronomy and navigation.
Pub manager Arber Hasani said: “Myself and my team are looking forward to welcoming customers into The Stargazer.
“We are confident that the pub will be a great addition to The O2 Entertainment District.”
Janine Constantin-Russell, managing director at The Entertainment District and Icon Outlet at The O2, also said: “Like The O2, Wetherspoon is a household name.
“We’re absolutely thrilled that they are joining our diverse line-up of bars and restaurants.”
The O2 is located just 15 minutes from central London, and is easily accessible by road, tube and boat.
It has been visited by over 100 million people since opening in 2007 and plays host to more than 300 events a year.
